To those shopping for a vehicle Gateway Chevrolet in Chicago is not the place to go. Lets start from the beggining. In 2004 my husband was trying to get a truck to get himself to work. He doesnt have the best credit in the world so its hard to find a place to finance us. He saw Gateways commercial and decided it was worth a shot and called and did an application over the phone. Not long after he was called back and he was told they had gotten him approved to purchase a new truck with no money down and no co-signer. So we drove the 70 miles there to see what he could get. After we got there they told us he would have to have a co-signer and put a 1000 down as well. We needed a vehicle badly enough we fell for it and got them everything they wanted. Now it came around to being my turn needing a vehicle 2 years later. I applied online through a few different sites and yet again Gateway came up as being a dealership that would finance me. A few hours later i got my first call from them saying congradulations we got you approved for a loan to get a car. I was told i needed no money down and no co-signer. I told them about the bad experience we had with them a few years before and Claire in finance told me that since then they completly changed their financing and now did secondary financing which was how they got me approved. I still didnt believe them. After about two weeks of different people calling me from Gateway all telling me the same thing I began to think maybe they did change and maybe they really did get me approved. So yet again we drove about 70 miles to get there. After we got there we sat down with the sales associate and he took down all the information i had already given them several times both over the phone and online. After about 20 minutes he came back and told me that i would have to have a co-signer because i dont make enough money on my own to finance a vehicle. I make about 10 an hour and work full time so who really makes enough to do this on their own? So i called my father who co-signed the first time and he agreed to do it again. After all was said and done he wasnt going to be able to co-sign for me either since we still had the loan out for the truck he co-signed for 2 years earlier. All the different people that called me kept telling me i would have to put nothing down and needed no co-signer and all i really needed to do was come look at what i wanted. I was told i could put 99 down on a new cobalt and only pay 99 a month. Where did that plan go? We asked to speak to the manager and all he could tell us was that the people that called back on everything arent even supposed to discuss numbers. What kind of dealership is this that they would lead people on like this to believe that maybe they might actually get what they want for a change. All Gateway is is a dealership full of false promises and faulty advertising. Their commercials claim the same thing their phone reps do but it is all false. I beg anyone if you are not close to where they are dont waste your time and money to drive their because you will just be let down and lied to. Thank you for reading this. Samantha
