Bixby Corn Stoves

I am an Iowa resident that has just built a new home. In trying to conserve our resources of energy my wife and I decided to install a corn stove as part of our heating system. I have spent hours and hours doing research on various units. All in all it boiled down to one unit that was SUPPOSED to be SUPERIOR to all other units on the market. That company name was BIXBY ENERGY SYSTEMS. We invested over $4,000 in this stove and was as proud as a peacock when they installed it in May of 2006. We fired it up to see the beautiful flame that it makes even though it was 80 outside. We let it burn for about 10 minutes or so and shut it down for the rest of the summer. In late August we had a cool spell and we decided one evening to fire up the corn stove to take the chill off the air in the house. It fired off beautifully and it ran a total of 20 minutes and went into shut down mode and dumped the burning corn into the ash container and 2 of the 8 lights on the control panel were flashing. I get the book out and see what it meant that those 2 lights were blinking and I took the appropiate steps to correct any problem ( none that was evident ). I fired it up again and BINGO in 10 minutes the stove shuts down again. Being cautious I did not re-light the stove again until I contacted our dealer the next day. Now is where the ordeal really gets crazy. This is a new dealer and he doesn't have a clue as to what is going on so he has to call the factory to get answers. In the time he takes to call the factory I call the factory myself and talk to someone in tech support. They tell me to take the vent pipe off and make sure a bird has not built a nest in the pipe. No Nest, pipe is clean as a whistle. No I have to go into the workings of the stove and remove 12 screws to make sure the exhaust blower is not plugged up. Clean as a whistle it it. Now I have to go get a small mirror to check another little blower to see if it is working. It is working. I put everything back together again and fire it up again. Wow 10 minutes this time before it shuts down. I fire it up again and WOW 15 minutes this time before it shuts down. Call the factory again and talk to someone different in tech support, no one seems to have ever heard of me before so we start from scratch again. Now they tell me to go change the vent blower speed control and the corn flow control to different settings. Did that and I got a total 60 minutes of run time wothout dumping. I call the dealer again and he comes out in the evening and is stumped as to what the problem is, and said he would call the factory. Well this has now gone on for almost 3 1/2 weeks and still no stove. I call the factory and would not get off the phone until I talked with someone in management. I talked to Jason there and he said he would get someone from the factory to come to the house to fix it. Well a week and a half went by and finally the dealer and a rep from another dealership in Iowa came to the house. They messed with the stove for an hour and a half and left. Within 10 minutes after they left the stove shut down and dumped the hot corn again. I fired it up again and within 10 minutes the stove made this horrible grinding sound and filled the burn pot with corn and quit working totally. I call the dealer again, no responce, I called the factory and they are stumped. Now they say that the blower for the exhaust is bad and they are coming tonight to see it that will fix it. Since the 2 men were here and made adjustments to the stove, it is so noisy that you can not watch tv in the family room without the volume so high that the dog runs and hides. So after 5 weeks of grief I still do not have a stove that is worth bringing home. Bixby Energy Systems in Rogers, MN. could care less and the poor dealer don't have a clue. My advice to anyone in the market for a reliable corn or pellet stove is to STAY AWAY FROM BIXBY STOVES and any of their products. If the problem is not rectified tonight I am returning the stove and buying another brand that works. Very unhappy in Iowa
