WILLFUL IGNORANCE

I am just so tired of trying to communicate in a world filled with anti- intellectualism, with people who disdain ideas and thoughts and discussion of such. I am a hard working woman who has done many low paying jobs and lived in humble circumstances, but I never admired ignorance and have made great sacrifices to educate myself and learn from those who knew more than I did. I fear for our nation of citizens who seem to prefer to allow demagogues to tell them what to think instead of sitting back and looking inward for their own experience of what truth is. I am sad and angry that we have legislators at every level who prefer to ignore the constitution than to struggle with their constituents who could be led ethically toward just decisions. Do any of our so called 'neo-cons' think they come even close to the ideals that the founding fathers emblazoned in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I am totally disgusted with educators at every level who have just given up helping our children learn how to be good citizens, critical thinkers and well versed in history and literature. Instead the schools of conservative and liberal stripe argue about shallow positions and economic issues instead of caring a whit about what is actually happening to the children. That is enough for one day!
