Today, I promised my mother I would never put her in a nursing home

This was a complete lie on my part. I have no intention of taking care of her as she gets older. I think the best she can hope for is to go quietly in her sleep.

My Mum recently died in her sleep at a care home. I managed to spend nearly eight weeks with her before she died. She wanted to go home and leave the care home but she was really heavy and required full time care. I love my Mum and wished I could have her back now but I'm sure she's in a better place and not in pain anymore. I hope she wasn't afraid when she passed away. My Dad is still living. I would like to take him home too but I live in a different country. It's going to kill me when he goes. I should just go back home, buy a house and take Dad with me.

the worst you can do, especially as she ages and starts needing assistance, is lie and disappoint her. My mom swore she would take of my dad, who is 10 years her senior and has health issues. But she passed away by a surprise brain aneurism. He now lives with me and my wife and I am taking care of him. Sometimes it's real hard, but he's my dad and moreover my mom's wishes.

she is your mother, you should not treat her like that, she spent her young years caring for you now it is your time to repay. Karma is a bad thing

The crux of today's society is that the old can no longer look forward to a peaceful retirement and direct care from their immediate family. You do owe her but we cannot often pay our debt.

thats sad to hear, you better think of someone who can take care of her at home, this will make her happy and you dont have to spend much time with her
