Taxi Cab Confessions

Some of the
joys and pains of being a public transport driver can be experienced in taxi cab
confessions. There is no more boring and perfect passenger as the ones who
simply tell you where they are headed, sit there and pay up when they alight.
Those are rarities.
I have listened to people unburden their hearts on me as if I were some priests. The bad guys are the worst: the bragging thieves, corrupt public officials, illicit lovers, wife-beaters, even a few men who claim to be serial killers. These simply can’t stop talking. I sit there, listening with half my mind and keeping an eye on them at the back seat.
A man once came in and confessed to killing his family. What was I to do? I drove him where he wanted and let him off. Another said he just bankrupted his company. A sobbing woman claimed she just poisoned her abusive husband. A young girl laughed as she told me she has HIV and is sleeping with any man she meets.
I have no choice but to keep the driver-passenger confidentiality because I am illegal here.
