stole the donation money from work

I used to be a salon manager at a very small salon. I came to a point where working 15 hours a week for minimum wage around my 40 hours of school each week left me with not enough money for gas to drive to work. We accepted donations for sponsored child and I was responsible for sending in the $80 that we had collected for his Christmas gifts. I needed money to make it back to work so I took the $80 with intentions of replacing it. Dumb ass that I am, I lied to my inquisitive boss about sending in the money order a few days after having taking it. I couldn't explain why the sponsor hadn't received any money. She found out the next day after investigating and called to confront me about it. At this point I just shut down because I didn't have money to replace what I had stolen from this child and salon owner. I pulled a "no call no show" at work from there on out because I didn't want to deal with it. I didn't return the key and $80 until the salon owner called the police and I was asked to return everything asap. Nothing ever happened after that. I'm a remorseful pile of shit.
