Staff in Morrisons Bridgewater

On the evening of Saturday 30th October 2006 I came into one of your stores in Bridgewater with two friends. We went to the alcohol section and came back with only one small bottle which was being held by one of my friends. I had to go to the cash point so I went to the right side of the two cashiers and my friends went to the left. The member of staff on the right side shouted at me and said “have you got any Identification”. At the same time the other member of staff asked my friends for I.D. One friend got her driving licence out and the other didn't have hers because she didn't have her wallet and never needs it anyway because she's twenty five. I didn't have mine on me because I lost mine in a car accident and told her this. I've never had a problem before being twenty two with a grown up son. When asked why they said that we all came together, looked like we were going to share it between ourselves and so have to ask all of you for Identification because it's ‘Morrison's Policy'. By that time my there were a few members of your staff around us making us feel very uncomfortable and very annoyed. I was fuming at that point so I went outside to calm down. My friend later told me that a security guard came over shortly after I left and asked what was wrong. He said quietly that he didn't believe what he was hearing and didn't agree with it either. The girl didn't even look at the I.D. in the end. So they left the bottle and went. We have never ever seen or heard anything like it before in our lives. Firstly the girl that asked me for I.D. was wrong to shout, she shouldn't ask me for identification anyway because I wasn't buying anything. I was on my way out of the building with nothing in my hands apart from my mobile phone. The member of staff who shouted at me made me feel like a child that was shoplifting, there was no need for her to be the way she was. Secondly they said “you all came together and looked like you were going to share it between yourselves”. That they couldn't serve us unless we all had I.D. and that it was ‘Morrison's Policy'. Well as far as were concerned that's rubbish. Your staff handled the situation very poorly by Morrison's standards, or any standards by that matter. Having to be stared at by other members of staff too made it worse. My friends and I at one point or another have worked in a supermarket and no how a matter like this should be handled. As far as were concerned if one person has I.D. and appears to be buying the alcohol themselves then they can be served regardless of who their with and as you can tell by this letter we were treated unfairly and that the whole thing was a joke. I feel that I have to inform you of this matter and we need you to explain to us why this happened the way it did, whether the staff were correct and to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else. We are avoiding Morrison's at all costs because we were treated unfairly and were left embarrassed, angry and annoyed. We knew there would be a lot of underage teenagers about trying to get alcohol because Bridgwater fair was on everyone was on the look out, but we are adults and ended up feeling like teenagers ourselves.
