Working in the veterinary field and being a part of an adoption program for homeless animals, it makes me sick to my stomach when people bring in their puppies or kittens not wanting to have them altered because they want to breed this pet to be 'just like him/her'. I deal with homeless,unwanted, abused, neglected animals every day and to see people want to breed for reasons like 'I want her to have just one litter' or have their kids witness the miracle of birth is just unbelievable. Most of these babies will be in a shelter or on the streets because of peoples ignorance and neglegence. People who want to breed (unexperienced first time breeders), listen up....not only will spay and neutering extend the well being of your pet (pyometras in unaltered females and testicular cancers in unaltered males)it saves lives....saves the lives of those poor breeding animals and their offspring when you cant find all of them forever homes.Please adopt from your local shelter an unwanted, older pet that has been neglected.
