Pride

Today I am confused about 'Pride.' Isn't it supposed to be a bad thing? The Bible says it is an abomination to the Lord. What exactly is the definition of 'pride?' Webster's dictionary says it is an undo sense of one's own superiority, arrogance, conceit. This is where I am confused. Aren't we supposed to be proud of our house, our kids, our work, our life. Can't we be proud of these things without being arrogant? Maybe this is where being humble comes in. God likes people that are humble. Can we be proud and still be humble. How would this work? If we kept our yard clean and planted flowers and mowed the grass, can we be proud and humble? Maybe we should just know we are being a responsible neighbor. If our kids do good in school and make good grades and play sports well, can we be proud of them? Maybe we should just be thankful that God gave them talents. If we work well at our job should we be proud of our accomplishments? Maybe we should just consider it a job well done and know it will be appreciated. If our life is great with a good spouse, nice house, cars, and plenty of money should we be proud, or should we be thankful God has blessed us? I have come to the conclution that 'Pride' is when we think WE have done well, when we really should be thanking God he has let us have what we have. I am not confused anymore.
