npower electric scare tactics

I have a pre-payment meter to avoid debts for electricity. npower sent a representative from Siemans to re-set meter and I was told that I owed £999 (nine hundred and ninety nine pounds) I am a pemsioner and my wife has a heart condition. We were very distressed. I contacted npower to be told that all the reps meters are set at that ficticious amount. I think for a company to behave in this way and encourage their reps to lie is terrible. Also I dispute that I owe any monies at all and am passing the matter to energy watch. I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience with npower. thank you,
