No receipt, no refund

I went to Edward McKay used bookstore and traded a DVD movie for a nintendo gamecube game and when I tried to play it, it did not work. The next day I took it back and tried to get a refund and was refused because I didnt have my receipt. Now im out a gamecube game and six dollars. Who ever expects to buy anything from anywhere and it not work. Why dont they check these things before they put it on the shelf...
