No Paycheck when promised

I took a risk and starting working with a dot com company...agreed to a training wage of $2000 per month to be paid on the 15th and 30th of each month for 3 months and then work off commission...the first the check did not come on time...7 days later after phone calls and emails. I was sent a very degrading email by my boss...Aren't working for a paycheck. Is it too much ask to paid as promised on time...and not have to beg for the agreed pay?????
