next directory

I am writing to bring to your attention, a disgusting policy of one of Britains largest retailers. I have just spent 2 hours on the internet buying Christmas presents by mail order on the Next website. When I proceed to checkout with the items in my basket , I am asked to tick a box that says this “I would like to open a NEXT Directory Flexible Account and request a copy of the new Autumn Winter Next Directory. I understand there will be a Ł3.75 charge which I will be invoiced later” As I do not want a directory I didn't tick it but it refuses to allow you to confirm your order without doing so. Ie you are forced to buy a directory that you don't want. As I am buying from the internet, it is apparent anyway that I don't need a directory. I called Next customer service to ask why my order will not be accepted without ticking this box. I was informed there is no way around it. If you want to order you have to tick the box. He tells me that once my order is delivered I can call them and ask for the directory fee to be waivered. I said that's not the point. I don't want a directory, I will not use it and I am an environmentalist. Shouldn't we all be?? He just repaeted that there is no way around it. Like or lump it!. I tell him I think its disgraceful and he says that's up to me. I cannot complain to anyone else, I have to complain in writing. At a time when people are being given criminal records for not properly recycling their waste, how can a huge corporation be allowed to get away with this policy. Why can't the government, closedown their website until they stop this. When you receive the confirmation of your order they have the unbelievable cheek to say at the end of it “Please don't print out this e mail unless you really need to “ What a barefaced liberty they have to become “environmentally friendly” !!!
