I don't understand why it is that some people with motorcycles are hell bent on making as much noise as possible. I am from Texas originally ( Houston & Austin) and there were bikes there, and they were mildly irritating, but I now live in Hew Hampshire (Manchester) and it is overwhelming. I've never cared for bikes anyway, but I always thought that it was their right to tear around like they do. But now, I afterliving in Manchester, I just flat out HATE HATE HATE them. I live on a nice long street next to the river and I kidd you not, not a single minute goes by when you don't hear a motorcycle. These aren't normal loud bikes, either. For some reason, people up here pimp up their bikes in order to make them as loud as possible. And when I say loud, I mean you can't open your windows on a beautiful summer day without covering your ears the whole time. you can hear them from miles away. There are two kinds of sounds they strive for. One is the insanely loud, high-pitched SCREAM from the muffler, and the other is the loud thundering , earthquake-like roar. Both of these can be downright terriying when you are reading a book or watching tv in the privacy of your own home. I t iis a blatant and joyfull disregard for community that these people enjoy in partaking in. There is no way around it. It is intentionally meant to annoy people, and say 'Fuck you! Look at me!' to everyone around them. I have talked to many people with bikes to try and figure out why they have to make an already loud motorcycle 10 times louder. And I have been told several times that they do it because they like to see people's reactions, and that they think it's funny to irritate and scare people like that because there is nothing ever done about it. As a student of psychology, it is extremely obvious that this behavior is passive-aggressive. These people have a need for attention that has yet to be met. They are self-conscious and have poor self-esteem, therefore , as with small children and animals, negative attention is better than no attention at all. It probably started early in childhood and has grown to become a tool in which they can MAKE people notice them. It doesn't matter to them that they are being amazingly disrespectful, and in a lot of cases aggressively disrespectful. I'm sure thereis more to it than this, but given what I do know about human needs and behavior, I have gotten to the point where there is not an ounce of tolerance left in me. I should be able to open my fucking window in the place where I spend $2000 a month on rent, just to get some fresh air and listen to the birds. But, at least here in Manchester, this right has been and is continously being taken away from me. You can't sit outside at a restaurant on a summer evening and enjoy a couple beers without the constant, unrelenting barrage of mind-numbing noise. I am so sick of it, I can't even find the words to express how angry this complete and total lack of respect of the community makes me feel.
