Loud music in Wetherspoon pubs

I'm really fed up with the volume of music in pubs, especially Wetherspoons pubs. It means that you can't have a quiet conversation with your friends. I'm not too keen on karaoke bars either. I always avoid pubs that have karaoke nights. Why do people want to do that. Don't they know that they can't sing well.
