ID Requred for buying a movie

I went to buy about 20 movies from Wal-Mart yeserday. As one of the movies was scanned the cashier asked for my ID. I asked, 'Why?' and was told it was their 'policy' for any 'R' rated movie to require an ID. I said to her 'you can clearly see with my grey eyebrows and hair that I'm over 18' - what gives you the right to my ID? I thought this was America where you don't have to carry 'papers'? I left the movies and walked out. I tried to complain to Wal-Mart but got caught in voice mail jail.
