home phone bill

I signed up for a telephone, and had to pick from one of their 'packages', and did. I am on a fixed income, and got a Lifeline, which is a no frills, nothing extra deal, that is supposed to $9.95/mo. This gives me 100 min. of free long distance, or toll call, and anything over 100 min. I have to pay .49/min for. being just myself and my husband at home, we have no problems with that, and have never gone over the 100 min. two months ago, I got a bill for $73. and upon inspection could only find fees, taxes, tarriffs, surcharges being the reason for the bill being so much. last month is was the same thing. I find it hard to believe that I am using $10. worth of phone, and am made to pay another $63. in fees taxes, surcharges, and the like. all those fees etc cost me more, way more than the phone itself. if I had an alternative, I would have the phone removed, but being disabled, both of us, we need it, and are 'over a barrel.
