FAFSA is unfair

I am a 21-year old college student who was raised by a single mom employed with United Airlines, need I say more? She raised myself, and is in the process of raising my brother (16) with no moral or financial support from my father. She has dug through the last penny of her savings to get me this far through college, not to mention the loans I have in my name, so my question is, how come we are not recieving any help from FAFSA? I know many people who have recieved grants from the government, and I know for a FACT that my family is more in need than they are. Can anyone explain this to me, because I have tried to get answers from the U.S department of education but all I get is 'the run around.'
