Circuit City Extended Warranty Worthless

I purchased a digital camera last December (2005) for about $275 from Circuit City. I was pressured by the salesman to purchase the extended protection($40 more) and he emphasized to me and my 22y/o daughter who was present that if anything goes wrong and he did mention dropping/accidental breakage this plan would literally cover everything regardless and it would either be replaced or repaired with No questions asked/hassles. I bought the extended protection coverage. He never once mentions that there were 2 different plans and the package information did not mention there were 2 plans either. Fast forward to 11/11/06 my younger daughter drops the camera and the zoom lens won't close and camera frozen. I contact the store thinking they could repair /send off for me but they were very evasive and instructed me to call the extended warranty and they were very evasive and did inform me that my plan did not cover accidental breakage. I was furious and s/w a Supervisor who basically told me the same and left me with no options. When I persisted, he stated he would forward my complaint to the warranty dept and I would be contacted of the status. He kept saying that they were not the same company as Circuit City and whatever they told me I would need to take it up with the store. I received a garbled voice message after 4 days stating they could not validate the warranty and no options offered. My daughter and I then paid a personal visit to the store manager who was polite but it was obvious he had no power to do anything and did not leave me with any options other than to refund my $40 for the extended warranty. When I persisted he did state that he could sell me a similar camera for the employee's price. I persuaded him to give me the extended accidental plan for the price of the basic. He also informed me that they did not have the original camera, would not replace or repair it (which would have cost more than to replace it). I was stuck with few options so I reluctantly accepted this ridiculous offer. I spent an additional $205 for a cheaper camera. During this whole experience the manager never sympathized with me, acted as I was taking too much of his time and when I told him I wasn't satisfied and I asked him what were my options? His response was none and did not have a customer service or corporate contact to resolve these types of issues. This was a lose lose situation (Circuit City is the Big loser here) and I felt like my opinion and loss didn't matter at all to Circuit City. They made feel like they could care less. Well maybe one day when they are closing their stores forever because all of their shafted unhappy customers took their business elsewhere, maybe they will realize the error of their ways. Hey Christmas is coming and you bet your ass Circuit City that I won't be spending another dollar in your stores. I will take my business to stores that want to earn my business and will do whatever it takes to get and retain my business. Most importantly a store that will keep their promises and back what they sell.
