car dealership trashed my credit

I recently traded in my car for a newer model. The dealership didnt pay off the existing loan on my car when it was traded in, they waited 3 months. In the meantime, my credit is now showing 3 months of nonpayment on a vehicle that wasnt even in my possession and which had been traded in. The car loan company wont remove the charges on my credit without proof of when the car was traded in, and the dealership refuses to do anything to fix the situation.
