On August 21, 2006 I went to Nashville Dodge to “look” for a new vehicle. Once “assigned” a salesman (Chris)I was taken to the lot to view what was in stock. After viewing several of the 2006 Dodge Chargers I found one I was interested in and took it for a test drive, although I had some questions. Such as, do the lights come on with a sensor or manual? I was told a sensor and found out later this was not true. This was the first of several misconceptions. When I told him I liked the car we went inside and began the “numbers” process. This is when I found out it was his first day on the job. After several attempts to enter my information in the computer he realized he needed help. This is when Dan came into the picture. Once the computer was set up I was asked what type of payment I was looking at. I told him I could not afford anything higher than I was paying now which was $482.45/month. I also told him I had no money to put down but did have a car to trade in, a 2001 Monte Carlo. We went over mileage, etc and gave him my keys. He left to another office. When he returned he had with him a paper with the following information; the base price of the car, $21750.00, $1500.00 down payment and $2500.00 for my Monte Carlo. I first reminded him that I did not have a down payment and disagreed with the amount they were giving me for the trade in. After several attempts to get a higher trade in amount he went to the “office” for more calculations. He then showed me that the monthly payment would be $575. I informed him immediately that there is no way I could afford that payment. I again asked for more for the trade in and was refused stating he is not an appraiser and if they do not have a bid on the car that is all they can give me. I informed him that my credit union would surely give me a lower rate and payment. He then suggested a “dual contract”, one application through them and the other through my credit union. I asked him if the credit union did not approve the loan would I be able to return the Charger and get my Monte Carlo back. I was told yes there would not be a problem. Unfortunately I trusted them and signed both contracts. Since it was now 10:00 pm (I got there at 6:30) I was unable to do anything but go home. The next day I contacted my credit union and filed an application. I received a call from the loan officer and was told although I had good credit she could not approve my loan for the full amount because of the difference between the payoff for the Monte Carlo and the trade in which amounted to approx.$4.282.00. I then called Nashville Dodge and spoke with an Allison. I told her the credit union's decision and why they would not approve the loan and she agreed that they don't cover the difference. I then told her I would be bringing the Charger back since the loan did not go through and she told me I could not and I was stuck with their loan. I told her about the “dual contracts” and she said I would need to speak with the finance person I dealt with and he would be in the next day. I did not wait until the next day I went there after work and spoke with a different Dan. He informed me there was nothing he could do but I should come back on Friday because the general manager would be there and he could help me. I did not wait until Friday I called the finance person (Christopher Russell) and explained the situation to him. He also stated that credit union's do not cover the difference. Apparently they all neglected to tell me that. I asked what I needed to do to bring the car back and he also said I was stuck with it and maybe after 3 months I could refinance it. I returned to the dealership on Friday and was able to speak to the original salesman. I explained to him the results of the credit union application and reminded him of the conversation on Monday night regarding my inability to pay the $575.00/month and gave him the amount the credit union was willing to give me for the car loan. He said he would speak with the general manager/owner. After several minutes of going back and forth I was told they could do nothing for me. I asked to speak to the general manager/owner myself but was told “the owner doesn't speak with customers” I told him I could not keep the car and wanted the Monte Carlo back. He stated I could not do that. I asked about the 30 day return policy and he said we couldn't do that because there are too many fees involved. He also stated that “Allison” would look into getting me a better rate and for me to call her in a day or two. I called for 4 days and she was either not in the office or on a call and never returned my calls. I could do nothing at that point but leave. For several days I contacted Chrysler 6 times to find out if I had an account or not and was told no I did not have an account. I explained to one of the reps (Mike Swanson) that I was receiving calls from Nashville Dodge that my payment was late. He instructed me to not pay anyone anything until I hear from them. He stated I would receive a welcome letter if and when the account was open. On October 9th I started receiving calls from Nashville Dodge stating my payment was late. I explained to them that I had no payment information so how could I pay anything? I was threatened that my credit would be ruined if I did not bring the payment to them. I asked who the loan was through and was told it was through Chrysler Financial. I informed her (Sandy) that I had contacted Chrysler several times and they had no account information for me. She told me to bring her the money and my credit will not get ruined. I again told her I would not give them any money until I had information from Chrysler that I had an account with them. She said she would call me back the next day. When she called back she stated she spoke to “jennifer” at Chrysler and verified I did have an account and she gave me the account number. I immediately called Chrysler and gave them that number and was told that account number did not exist. On October 17th I received a message from Chrysler to contact them. I did and was told my account was set up last week and the contract was bought on October 16th. According to Mr. Meyers at Chrysler, Nashville Dodge had made the September payment when they sent in the contract. How can this dealership abide by a contract they held for over 30 days, knowing I wanted to return the car!
