Buick 2007 shift stick flaw

New Buick 2007 V-8 Lucerne has a stiff, difficult to move shift stick and while driving down the road the shift stick makes a thumping noise and the stick moves a 1/2 inch on its own. Buick garage offers no explanation and says all is in keeping with the factory specs.(????)
