Avon Billing

In 2005, I was a representative for Avon. I was billed for items I didn't order, receive, or billed more than once for items. I sent statements to our district manager, who faxed them to Avon. I didn't hear anything so I thought it was taken care of. A week ago, I received a call from American, a collection agency, requesting payment for an outstanding debt to Avon of $95.00. I said I was unaware of the debt and would contact Avon. I called the district manager and she said she had faxed the statements but no longer had copies. I told her since I hadn't heard anything, I didn't keep them either. She gave me Avon's number. I spoke with a rep at Avon, but she said it's too old, and I should settle with collections. I told her about the problems and she provided a different number to call. I got a recording, and left info. Two days ago I received a call from American again regarding the debt. I explained the problem, and the rep said he would settle for a lesser amount. I said I'd pay if I owed, but Avon owed me because of the overcharges. I said I'd attempt to contact Avon and call him. I didn't hear from Avon, The rep called me back today. I explained the situation and he became belligerent saying I was refusing to pay and I'd better take my purse to court because it's going to cost me. I asked what he was talking about and he said it's my fault the debt hasn't been paid and I've been blowing them off for a year and a half. I told him this is only the second time I've spoken with him and he said very rudely, 'how many times does it take; whose fault is it?; whose fault is it?' I said it's Avon's fault. He said he wanted my fax number at work, to speak with my manager, and finally, I asked to speak with his manager. The manager(?) came to the phone and said he was willing to take $55.00 to settle. I explained I didn't owe it and he said Avon was taking it to court. For more than ONE year Avon did not respond to my fax. Why didn't they contact me or have copies of the statements? Why wait so long? The need to change their practices!
