Canadian Tire in St.Catharines, Ontario on Glendale Ave On July 31, 2006, My Husband Randall, and I left our house and drove on the highway we noticed as we climbed in speed to 80-90 kms the front end of our car would shake. Since we were leaving the next day to move to Nova Scotia, and driving the car with a U-Haul Trailer. We drove to your Glendale Ave. St Catharine's Location to have one of your mechanics look at it. The gentleman at the service counter said we needed a front end alignment , tire balance, and stabilizer bushings, along with that work we had them put in a new distributor cap and spark plug wires, although they didn't set the timing, all work was completed and paid cash in full. We took it back on the highway to go home, and there was absolutely no change to the vehicle when approaching 80-90 kms. We took the car back to your service department, where they put the car back on the hoist. The mechanic saw that there was a new re-built transmission and said that the transmission was not locking into the higher gears, we had the transmission put in approx 21/2 months ago and had a one year end to end warranty. Precision Transmission was closed for the day. August 1, being the day we were leaving, took the car to Precision Transmission, they spent approx. 4-5 hours, thoroughly checking the transmission over, and putting it on the scanner. They put the car on the hoist showed me if you move the front tire back and forth they was a clicking noise in the rack. We then took the car back to the same Canadian Tire location and showed your mechanic exactly what Darryl, from Precision had shown Randall. Paul, your service manager said needed a whole new rack. Another mechanic, Andy had overheard about how we were tight financially and a day late for us to leave. He told us all we would eventually need was a steering knuckle, so to be on the safe side of the 1,1400 kms drive we told them to do the work. We took it back on the highway and still the same original problem occurred. Aug 2, We phoned Paul to tell him we still had the same problem he claimed he had 14 years experience with Chrysler, he swore it was the transmission., we believed him again. Now to say the least we were pretty upset at who to believe, Precision Transmission, two hard working guys trying to make and honest living or Canadian Tire a company that has many years of proven products and service. We took the car back to Precision Transmission, and demanded that they have to look at it again, seeing the upset in my husband, they agreed to look it over again. After a couple of hours inspection, they noticed the front tire had a warp in it, they switched the tires front to back and PROBLEM SOLVED. We then went to let Paul know what the problem was, he took it for a drive, when he returned, he did not look happy and stated in a very derogatory tone that the car will never make it to Nova Scotia anyway. I was mortified...all the work that Canadian Tire did to our car, most of which it didn't need, had to pay our landlord a half of months rent because we couldn't vacate on Aug 1, and to top it off....could not afford the trailer to haul all our possessions. We had to take what we could fit in the car-not much- luckily we did get most of our sentimental items, which being parents, in our forties I appreciate. But no furniture at all, no bathroom pleasantries, very basic bedding, or bedroom/ bathroom items. I cannot help but blame some of your staff members for the over-expense, and shoddy advice/and or problem solving techniques, that had made our new beginning...into a stressful existence. As my husband is on disability, we had to struggle to get as far as we did and to have it taken away in a three day period due to incompetence makes me hurt and angry. On one had I would thank Andy for his honesty regarding the rack vs. steering knuckle, maybe he would be better suited in Paul's position, since he doesn't possess the people skills or like his years of experience/skills, be questioned. All this hassle and inconvenience, the whole problem was a warped tire (Canadian Tire)??? The guys from Precision Transmission, countless hours wasted, luckily their good guys and stand behind there warranty no matter how inane. Enclosed are copies of the work that was done, proof of deposit returned due to the trailer cancellation and return of the trailer hitch that was purchased (U-Haul only takes products back if there not used). If you have any questions or need further information please contact us. Please feel free to send us acknowledgement of receiving this letter, it would be appreciated. Sincerely, Julie and Randall Dorion
