Apartments owned by the Spanos corporation

I rented an apartment from the spanos corporation and signed a 1 year lease. In the interim my father became very ill and needed me to be with him. He was approximately 400 miles from me at the time. I quit my job and went down to the office to ask them what could be done as I had lived there for 4 months and not the year required. I was told that if they could rent out the apartment soon there would be no problem. Well here it is 2 1/2 years later and I receive a letter from a collection agency for $5,346.13. My rent was $850.00 per month. I had called two months after I moved out to see if there was any problems and they said they thought the apartment had been rented out and there was no problems. Well as It seems Spanos will not work anything out with me and insist I work with a collection agency to pay all of it and they will keep it on my credit. BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN DEALING WITH THIS COMPANY...When you rent an apartment
