I have rented cars at alamo rent a car dozens of times. Quite often the rental agent will try to talk you into taking an upgrade which I have done many times. But last month at DFW airport they pulled a trick which I never would have believed they would stoop to. I had reserved a car for the weekend at $15.95 a day. I only had to go a short distance to a wedding reception. The agent was of course trying to talk me into an upgrade which I declined. But after the contract came out and I had signed it he suggested trying a volkswagon beetle. I have never driven one and it sounded like fun so I agreed to it. He tore up the old contract and the computer spit out a new one which I initialed and away we went. Two days later after I checked in the car I found out they charged me a $40.00 dollar a day class change fee! The car was only $16.00 dollars a day but the class change fee was $40.00 a day! After returning home I called Alamo customer service and they pointed out to me that I had in deed intialed that on the contract and agreed to it. And sure enough that is true. But in all my years of renting cars I had never had a rental company pull a fast one on me. Then the customer service agent said she would remove one days change charge which she never did. Maybe I'm just an old fool but it is hard for me to believe that a company cares so little about future business that they would rather underhandedly get an extra $80.00 from a guy and lose his business forever rather than do the right thing. They have lost my business, my companys business, my families business forever. I hope it was worth the $80.00.
