ARE THESE WEBSITES CONTRIBUTING TO IDENTITY THEFT? FOR THE WORLD TO KNOW: I am very disgusted with Zaba Search and Intelius. For those of you who do not know what Zaba search and Intelius websites are I will explain it to you. Zaba Search and Intelius gives peoples information on the internet naming a price to obtain almost any information that anyone wants (ex: birthday, social security number, criminal background, address, etc) . It is like ANYWHO.COM. I feel that people have a right to remove their names off of the list if requested. I have requested Zaba Search and Intelius to remove my name and family names from their list. Intelius response was for me to fax them my state ID or Drivers License with picture blackened out which has my information on it to prove my identity. I feel that this is a violation of my rights. I also feel that this is how people obtain other people information. The public cautions us about Identity Theft and Zaba Search and Intelius can sell your information to the public??? This is outrageous. I find it ironic that for $50.00, Intelius and Zaba search are able to provide confidential information to whomever is willing to pay. However, when a person request for their name and their information to be removed from their database, you have to provide indentification to prove to them that you are who you say you are. I have the following questions: is what they are doing legal? If so, what can we do as citizens to protect ourselves from Identity Theft? Please remember, there are people that work for government entities for example: FBI, CIA, Secret Service, State affiliated Child Protection Service agencies etc. where all you have to do is type in their names, and all of their identifying information is available at this site. For $50.00 they give you information about that individual. Furthermore, what is the purpose of this Website? I understand the necessity to track sex registered sex offenders, but how can the law abiding citizens protect themselves. If this is legal, this makes me nervous.
