xbox 360 terror

Six in a half months ago I purchased a XBOX 360. Two days ago the game just died, not only did it die it was for no reason at all. I contacted XBOX support line only for them to tell me, my warranty expired two weeks ago. Apparently Microsoft does not stand behind there work. They told me that they do, but you would think if they did they would'nt try to charge me $130.00 for a repair. Especially when I paid $350.00 for the XBOX. I also went in to Game stop asking about the problem I was having with my xbox. The clerk said I wasnt the only one this has happened to. So can someone tell me how come if xbox has a Known on going problem with the xbox 360 why wont they repair at their expense.
