Worms in Chocolate Bars

The Market Basket stores save you money by private labeling most products, and in some cases, it's a great deal. I've bought bruised canned Libby fruit, and the Market Basket fruit was cheaper and better. But Market Basket brand candy I take issue with. They private label a lovely dark chocolate, but what's in it??? Last year I bought a box of 24 chocolate bars for the family - they are 50 cents apiece (2 for $100). They are wrapped in foil and kept cool so they should keep awhile, right? And further, they are stamped KOSHER from Worcester - and they are certainly pulling the wool over the Rabbi's eyes! The first box didn't get much attention - 7-8 were consumed and then they sat for maybe a month. When someone wanted chocolate again, within the foil and coming out of little holes in the chocolate were small 1/2' long white worms. I opened most of the rest of them, hoping it was an isolated incident - they were all that way - about 16 of them! I returned them to my local MB and got a voucher for purchase. It was 6 mos later before I trusted that batch was used up and decided to buy some again. I had them in the house maybe another few weeks - only about half had been eaten. During the same time period, I sometimes buy Trader Joe's chocolate products or other brands from CVS, and have never had this happen. Yesterday I threw out another half a box - this time I looked for a complaint email address. An expensive lesson, I realize, and I won't buy it again, but I felt it was a warning that should get out. Neither Market Basket not DeMoulas (their owner) have a web site or an email address that they publicize for complaint action and I'm not going to spend more money calling them. I think the Worcester Rabbi who agreed to their Kosher Stamping has had his reputation ruined by this one. The Kosher stamp used to be something you could count on - but not any more apparently. Buyer Beware!
