OK, so a few thoughts on how great a year it was for new music:1) This time last year, Chris Bro was all over the new rlsaeee by the Whigs, touting In the Dark as a song sure to be his favorite of the year. It didn't even make his top 20. And it is a really good song. 2) I put together a list of my favorites for the year, which included a track from The National and another from The Arcade Fire. I read Coach's list, and he included these two bands in his best of too .but two different singles. Now, Next hasn't yet covered either of these two acts yet, and I suspect Chris will. And in doing so, he could pick two entirely different songs from these same albums. Translation High Violet and the Suburbs are classic, start to finish, glorious albums. (Yup ..I stole your favorite adjective, Chris. That just happened.)3) Beach House didn't make the final show. Beach House. Another amazing start to finish album. Damn, would I have loved to see their show with The National in Brooklyn this past year. But I understand there are too many good choices.4) I heard Little Girl on Next and nowhere else. And I think it could easily be found on any music lover's Top 10 for the year. In fact, I hated Chris for originally playing this song long before I could ever purchase the song and listen to it in a regular rotation of new music. Little gems .awesome year.
