Water Water Everywhere

Well today, Saturday October 28 2006, I woke up to find 4 inches of water in my basement. I've been crying all day!! My husband and I moved to Kentucky 3 years ago from California to be close to his ailing mother, (she is doing much better now, can't say the same for us.) We bought a house with a beautiful finished basement, it was the main reason we bought it, twice the space for the same money as a house with no basement. Everything was downstairs, the family room, office, game room, bathroom, storage space. At 2 am I thought the sump pump sounded funny, ( I never really understood why we had this hole of water in our home, But now I truly fear it.) I informed my sleeping hubby, who said dont worry about it. Which I continued to worry about all morning long. I wondered if the pump doesn't work will water fill the basemnt?? at 3am, 4am I wondered, but didnt get up thinking, Noooo Maybe a liitle leak, but nothing serious. At 8:30 I got up, thinking will there be a problem?? Thinking I always assume the worse, Knowing in my heart, our home isnt flooding, are you crazy?? I got to the basemnt steps and started screaming!!! The basement is flooded.... everything is ruined!!! I have been crying all day!!! The insurance let use file a claim, and said an adjuster would come on Monday,But I read in our policy, that sump pump faliure is not covered, maybe they will overlook it, What do you think?? Update Monday October 30 2006, Adjuster called said he wouldn't even bother to come and look, becasue water overflow is not covered. Even if you have flood insurance. You have to buy a special extra policy for sump pumps that no one ever told us about. Well thanks alot, We have about $10,000 worth of damage, and no one to pay for it..
