The Unicorn Inn Lower Corve Street Ludlow Shropshire SY8 1DU Tel: 01584 873555 Mike the owner - a man that is more suited to work as a stereo typical boof head bouncer, instead of a calm, friendly, the customer is always right pub/restaurant manager. I ate at the Unicorn on Saturday night (as myself, my girlfriend and her family have done so for many years). The Unicorn has recently come under new management. The bar staff were unable to locate a bottle of expensive Whiskey, hence my girlfriend pointed it out to the bar lady (from behind the 5ft tall bar) without any fuss from the bar staff what so ever. However the owner quickly appeared and grabbed my girlfriend by the arm making a smart arse remark 'I know it is exciting to get behind the bar, but you are not allowed, stay on out the bar'. My girlfriend never actually went anywhere near the opposite side of the bar, nor did she want to. Exciting to stand behind the bar? Please, live a little grandpa - we travel overseas twice a year, we were in Sri Lanka when the Tsunami hit - standing behind a bar in Ludlow does not rank as a highlight or even make an appearance on the 'must do/life goals list'. I explained to him that he had over reacted and requested he apologise to my Girlfriend to which he responded with 'would I like to visit him in a Thai Prison'. Not that I am a lawyer, but I am pretty safe in the knowledge that pointing out a bottle of Whiskey in sleepy Ludlow does not constitute a stretch in a Thai prison with the International drug barons. Mike continued with a rant that included with extremely condescending remarks such as 'I was your age once, go and sit down and enjoy your night otherwise I will need to call the police'. So, we have gone from spending a substantial amount of money in the Unicorn (over a number of loyal dining years I might add)to having my girlfriend manhandled by the psychotic new owner who suffers 'God Syndrome', to being concerned about a stint in a Thai prison, to be struck down with - you are requesting an appology because you are young and naive, and if you don't go away I will call the police - and have them put you in the local clink because you are complaining about my total over reaction to a very innocent situation. This guy is not heading for customer service award of the year. Shame his food is pretty bloody average also, the Greek Lamb was dry and tough, and the servings are questionably small. The whole saga was topped off by me walking off in disgust, realising Mike is not someone that is capable of communication in a mature manner nor was he keen on even entertaining a legitimate complaint from a respectable customer. In summary, the new owner is nothing short of a total joke - his staff clearly agree, they were all in complete shock and very embarrassed at their leaders childish and ridiculous behaviour. Graham - you are a disgrace. I will never eat at the Unicorn again whilst you have anything remotely to do with it, and it is now my mission to tell everyone I know via as many means as possible about this experience, encouraging them to eat at any of the other fine establishments in Ludlow, where they value customers and their opinions.
