Heres our letter to this obnoxiously staffed, undercleaned dump we stayed in: We stayed with you in cottage no.3 from 22/12/06 - 30/12/06. We were very disappointed with the cleanliness, decor and provisions in the cottage. We feel for the £420 we paid that the accommodation was not at all up to our expectations and was certainly not in the same league as the cottage which we had rented the previous week from Cumbrian Cottages. It was advertised as having a 'fully equipped' kitchen but did not contain even basic things like a toaster, cheese grater, or an oven tray. When we complained to reception we were given an oven tray which when we subsequently tried to use discovered was too big to actually fit into the oven. Following our complaint on the Monday we were harrassed by an unintroduced member of staff who apparantly 'did not appreciate us complaining'. We found this to be very unprofessional and intrusive. If a member of staff was to approach us it should have been to apologise not to verbally abuse us or accuse us of having made the mess about which we complained. His attitude seemed to be just that if we didn't like it we could leave, which was obviously impractical in the height of the summer season to expect us to be able to find alternative accommodation. As I have previously worked in the hospitality industry I think that this level of customer service is appalling. If one of your guests has a complaint you should try your utmost to remedy their complaint, not just suggest that they leave. Furthermore, we feel that the pictures and descriptions shown on your website are misleading, seeming to portray the camp site as being on the lakes edge which is clearly not the case. The description of the accomodation as a 'cottage' is also misleading, as from the pictures we were expecting a two story cottage not a ground floor flat. I could go on indefinately listing the many faults with the accommodation, I suggest that your housekeeping procedures be reviewed, your accommodation refurbished and your staff be taught some basic customer service skills. I will be sending a copy of my complaint to the tourist board as I feel strongly that we have been overcharged and poorly treated and I would not recommend anyone else to come and stay with you. We would appreciate any comments from yourselves and would expect to be compensated for what we all believe to be an exceptionally expensive and substandard holiday
