Twas The Day After Christmas!

Twas the day after Christmas and all through the house; wrappings were scattered for me to pick up and throw out. The stockings that were hung by the chimney with care; were now empty and baron and flung everywhere. The children once nestled and snug in their beds; were playing video games or out riding new sleds. I in my jammies and the Mrs. in her gown; thought for a second we might get to sit down. When what do my aching ears have to hear; the children fighting over their Nintendo gear. Away to the living room I flew in a flash; tripped up by the tree's cords we both fell with a crash. The lights still twinkling like new fallen snow; gave luster to all the broken objects below. What to my tired old eyes should appear; the Mrs. who's screaming and kicking me in the rear. That little ole biddy now so lively and quick; was vacuuming scattered glass and addressing me as Dick? More rapid than opening presents the children all came; the Mrs. she shouted and called out their names. Now Billy! Now Bobby! Now Garth and Betty Sue! Go with Ned and Opie and go with little Cindy Lou. Out to the porch by way of staying close to the wall; Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all! As sure as I am laying here I otherwise not lie; Up to the rooftop with their sleds the children did fly! Where Billy and Bobby got a brainstorm to do; down the chimney with a wheeeeee came giggling Cindy Lou! And then in a twinkling I heard on the roof; a war cry from Bobby who's a fearless goof. Before I could pull myself up and get turned around; Bobby flew off the roof on his sled with a bound. Layered in clothes from his head to his foot; that was a heap of padding and understatingly put. The sled hit the ground and flung him off on his back; what a rush he yelled up to his sibling pack. His eyes-how they twinkled! His yell it did carry! I held my breath and I said a Hail Mary! With his encouragement the rest would now go; by the time I got out there they were all off in the snow. Billy was screaming I can't find my front teeth; Garth was curled up lifeless like a Christmas wreath. Opie was crying that he hurt his belly; Betty Sue was shaking like a bowl of jelly! I helped them all up like a good Santa elf; I should wring all of your necks I said to myself. A wink of their eyes and a nod of their head; told me they were just joshing and I had nothing to dread. I spoke not a word and went straight to parental work; I grabbed all of their ears and gave them a jerk! Then laying a finger aside of my nose, I gave them my best jolly Santa pose. I pointed to the house and gave them a whistle; and away they flew like a down on a thistle. But I heard each exclaim as they went out of sight; I get the Nintendo first which started a fight.
