Last night, my husband and I went to a 'cooking class' at a place called Truffles & Trifles in Orlando. We had to book a month ahead because aparantly this place is really popular. The theme for our class was 'A Walk Through the Islands'. I was super excited to go since we had never done anything like this before. It was horrible! We were assigned to a station where we had to make three items from the menu ... we were given no supervision. There was no instruction. Just go cook what's at your station. When I encountered a problem, I hunted down the instructor and she accused me of doing it wrong. I took offense and proved to her that I did it right, it was her recipe that was wrong. Also, we were not provided with the right tools for what we needed to do, it was terribly frustrating. Also, the recipes were supposed to be from the Caribbean and Pacific islands. We made exotic island delicacies such as banana bread, and Jamaican jerk seasoned potato salad. Then ... once everyone was done making their stuff, we set up a buffet line, and one of the instructor's helpers brought out the PAPER PLATES! If we wanted a beverage with dinner, there were can sodas available for $1 each. Keep in mind please that we paid $100 for this class. The instructor sat next to my husband and attempted to make small talk with him. She asked what he did for a living and after he explained, she didn't seem interested in talking with him any further. I told her that I stay at home. She pressured me for more information, and asked what I would do if I worked. I told her that I've never had a career, etc. Then ... she goes on to ask what educational background I have. I told her that I have not finished my degree. She kind of smirked and then asked why not. It seemed as though she was trying to humiliate me by pointing out to everyone that I do not have a career or much of an education. My husband came to my rescue and told her that my life has pretty much been on hold since we've been moving so much for his career and now that we're in Orlando to stay, I am looking at options for school. I just could not believe this experience and the fact the establishment is so popular!
