Toyota Sienna Steering Failure

I own a 2002 Toyota Sienna which had the steering shaft fail, resulting in the complete loss of steering control of the vehicle. Fortunately, I was traveling at about 30 km/hr and was able to stop before crashing into something. Upon reporting it to Toyota Canada with regard to the defective parts, their response was...it's off warranty, to bad. Toyota did not bother to investigate the failure to determine if this could represent a bigger problem, maybe because they are recalling a million vehicles in Japan, USA and Europe for a similiar problem. Toyota has shown they have a complete disregard for the safety of their customers. Needless to say, I will not be purchasing another Toyota.
