I understand what comes with this type of Office Job. Not only do you have to sit at your desk for office call or usually multiple calls at the same time, but your also expected to be away from your desk running errands for people. If your not covering your phone, your covering someone elses. Then you have the one's that feel the need to interrupt you constantly, because, that's our job, and they wonder why it is hard to get things done! One of my gripes is the professional staff giving out the main number for their personal phone calls. I dont care if that's just the way it is, but is it really fair? We need to screen calls and also lie to the caller if someone doesnt want to speak to them so they can either get their work done or continue their conversation, whether work or social or even finish eating at their desk, or cover for them because they want to go get coffee. We have to get work done too and we never ever get private time or are able to tell people that we're busy and to take a message. So please give me a justifiable reason why it is ok for maybe one or up 10 or more higher ups to give out the main line to their family, Dr, Dentist, Auto repair, Appliance Repair, Hairdresser, the list goes on and on....You dont want to get interrupted, so why is it ok for us to get interrupted for your personal phone calls...and some of these people call multiple times. Please someone tell me why that is ethical in the work place.
