Shopping with guides in Sri Lanka

Guides for Hemtours in Sri Lanka take tourists to specific shops but do not help in the pricing of goods. As a result, tourists can end up paying far too much for goods. It was felt by a group with whom we travelled that there must be a scheme by which either the guides or company were able to benifit in financial terms from purchases made by unsuspecting customers. I would recommend that tourists travel much cheaper with local taxis when the taxi driver will go everywhere with you and help to guide you when required as to pricing in shops.
