It's been a few decades since I've passed through this town on I-35 en route to San Antonio , but I see some things never change . It was July 1 , 2006 when I was passing through this town in a 2003 Ford F-250 4-door with a bed cap , when my girlfriend decided to climb through the rear split window and get me and her son a drink of water from the cooler . You see , I had just driven 1600 miles from Maryland to get to San Antone and see my folks ..... you do get thirsty . No sooner we crossed the line into Selma , I was being tailed by one of Selma's finest , and he did some stunts to circle around our vehicle , while moving , to check out the silhouette of my girlfriend in the back of the truck , which gave him cause to pull me over . I can understand an officer using caution and having his hand on his gun while approaching a vehicle , but when you're being very cooperative , and obviously traveling , as a family ( no threat ) , why should you continue to have your hand on your gun , and walk backwards away from the vehicle as if we were going to shoot him in the back ? My girlfriend's son is 16 , handicapped , and never been to the state of Texas . He was very excited about going to see the Alamo , because he's fascinated with history , but after this incident , he wanted to just go back home to Maryland . It get's sweeter . So the cop finally tells me why he's pulling me over ( only asked 3 times )and says he saw someone in the back of the truck and the front seat empty . You have to be above the age of 17 to be in the bed of a truck while moving . My girlfriend showed him her ID and of course she's old enough , she's 40 . While we're getting a lecture , another cruiser pulls up , and the officer asks if he may let a K-9 sniff around the vehicle for drugs or paraphenalia . We don't use drugs or alcohol , nor do we look like it , no open containers or anything in view , and he wants to sniff out my truck !!! I've been on the road for hours and just want to get to my destination . I agreed to let him do his thing ,against my better judgment , to save enough embarassment , and we cause a slow down on I-35 . A travelling family , with suitcases in the back , a cooler , pillows, blankets , being searched in the middle of the day , by two cops , two cruisers ( beacons flashing ) and a K-9 . He tells me that once he goes around the vehicle once with the dog and there's no suspicion , he'll give me a thumbs up , and I can proceed. He not only went around the vehicle once , he went twice !!! This dumbass wanted a conviction that day , and he didn't get it from me . The only thing that town should get is a fricking lawsuit from me and my girl for wrongful profiling . Thirty years ago , when I resided in Texas , I travelled through this town and got a speeding ticket from another dumbass wanna be , and I never went over 55 . There was no explaining anything , just sign the ticket or go to jail . If you ever go through the state of Texas , avoid going through this town full of Barney Fife's on PMS !! Where was the probable cause ???
