Salesmanship

I have been taken in by a firm Simplee Solar who promote solar heating of hot water using roof mounted Solar panels. The sales pitch used publicity from the recently announced Powergen fuel price rises, along with smooth talking with a 'discount' on the normal price for signing up to a monitoring programme used to submit to the government to prove there should be higher grants to support the solar heating principle. I was foolish enough to agree, as a cash sale, because I had invited the rep. in response to a promotion lette; therefore I was not covered by the 7 - day cooling off period. In addition I had to pay approx 1/3 rd up front with 2 staged payments as work on installation progressed. What I did not know was revealed in the Mail on Sunday financial pages today that this firm based in Dorset but with an office in Essex, is being taken to court by Dorset trading standards over misleading claims in their advertising literature on the potential savings on energy bills. One may say as a pensioner over 70 I should have been savvy enough to resist the commonly used technique of saying the agreed 'discount' was only available if I signed a contract and paid the deposit before the 'salesman' left. That is obviously embarrassing to me and I may have a fight to regain my money, but having found this web site, I am making a complaint in the hope that maybe some other people may see this and beware.
