Chevrolet AVEO Safety Concerns July 17, 2006 On May 04th, 2006 I was involved in a motor vehicle accident with my 2004 Chevrolet AVEO. A 5 year old boy, who was left unattended in a Toyota CAMRY Station Wagon, slipped the vehicle out of gear and it rolled into the road from a hidden driveway. I hit the CAMRY at 50km/h on the driver's side door causing $7000 damage to the front end of my AVEO. Not only did the airbags NOT deploy but the seatbelt did not restrain me from hitting the steering wheel. I sustained substantial bruising to my breasts and suffered a fractured left hand. An engineer from GM had no explanation as to why one or both of these safety features did not operate as advertised. Is this a possible flaw with the Chevrolet AVEO? This Korean made vehicle is also similar to the Pontiac WAVE and Suzuki SWIFT. To date, even though GM has the assessment from the engineer and accident report and pictures of the accident, they have not provided me with any explanation as to why my AVEO did not protect me in any way.
