post office

I have been trying to deal with my mother's accounts while she is in hospital, so I have been acting with her Power of Attorney. The Post Office have been very stroppy. I can understand they don't want to give just anyone access to her account. But I have tried to personal approach by waiting in a queue for half and hour with all proof of identity and documents, only to be met with a rude 'go away' from the staff. I then had to write letters only to be told to go back to the counters (and queue again) and get a form they could have sent me in the post. I sent original certified documents to them in the post and requested their return, only to later find they had destroyed them. This has incurred replacements costs with solicitors. They want me to fill in more forms and send more original documents and trust I will get them back- some are very difficult to replace- like ID documents.
