There is no such thing as a GOOD Contractor. I paid $34,000.00 for what was supposed to be a beautiful in-ground swimming pool and instead got an ok pool a year and half later that really cost $42,000.00 Care Free Toland Pools is the top of the list when it comes to dishonest companies. We designed our pool with a very nice Sales person which we were told that the pool would be complete in 6-8 weeks after permits were pulled. (What a joke) They started digging and day 1 the hit the MAIN Sewer line in the back yard... NOW I know due to my husband working in the service field for the last 15 years that there is a wonderful number all Excavators are suppose to call before you dig. (State LAW,) Underground Security Alert. Did they call? NO!, We had to pay for the plumbing repair. I was so mad. It took us 4 weeks to get it repaired and $6000.00. Never once did the pool company admit fault. I got a lawyer for advice only at this point. The pool company states that it was our job to call Underground Security Alert. Umm...No... No matter what the contract states, the contractor is responsible for calling. Ok so we get the sewer repaired and I'm so upset I just want the pool completed; they started progress again 2 months later, it was looking very nice and I was getting exciting. The hole was completed, the rebar had gone in and how they're ready to pour the cement Problems again. Ok let me explain the style of the pool, they're very common, they're called “Sport Pools” you've heard of them, 3 feet on each end and 5-6 feet in the middle, right. Wrong, when they poured the cement, they didn't measure correctly and make room for the steps, so when they poured for the steps, the pool is now 5 feet off the steps descending into 6 feet and the other end is three feet. I once again get upset and call the pool company to complain, they said for an additional 1000.00 they can fill in the middle to 5 feet so it's not that noticeable. Are you insane I asked them the pool is back on hold. Now call my lawyer back and state what the problem is now. For $500.00 he reviews the contract for us. Finds the companies blue prints are very vague and open for interpretation. UNfreaking believable. Now winter is coming and we have a lot of rain in California so all winter long we had have a true cement pond. The frogs, tad poles and everything else you can think of loved it. Now it's September of the next year, oh by the way we started in October of the previous year. I called the pool company back knowing that I had to get this pool done. Lop sided or not. So they came out to inspect where they had left off and 1 month later called us and said we need to have the deck around the pool before they could continue. WOW could you not have told us that when you were here? You know while we wasted a whole month waiting for you to start again. Ok so we get the decking done around the pool and call them back out. Now they want another $500.00 from us for us delaying the pool.. US??? US??? Are you freaking kidding me? I refuse to pay you an additional $500.00 and called the lawyer again. Now it's . Then the lawyer stated that if we pay any money to them we need to write a letter stating we do so under distress and we feel this is the only way Carefree Toland Pools will finish the pool. So I did and signed the addendum. They re-faxed me a blank one and I re-wrote the same thing. They accepted that one and called the plumber and Electrician to come out and do their thing and nothing again for two weeks... Ok I make another phone call to the pool company, what's the hold up now... They are waiting for the guy who does the plaster let me tell you. It's now September 6, 2007 and they just plastered today. They are now out of my house and out of my hair and Now, I'll file a claim with the Contractor License Board of California, file a claim with the One Call Company and see what my lawyer can really do for me. You know you always go with what you think is the best, (been around the longest) but I think the older companies that are family owned. The parents started a good business and the when they die, the kids get greedy and the business turns to CRAP!!!!!
