Police speed traps

ok so speed cameras are a pain but usually fair - anything in a 30mph zone or where there is an obvious hazard - its the sily ones that are there to raise revenue that gets me ... however I've just got back from the Yorkshire Dales where I saw a police Subaru Impreza (v.v.v.quick car) hiding in bushes then tearing out after some poor sod who may have got up to 75mph safely passing some slow cars - the testosterone fuelled policeman then pulls 90mph overtaking on a bend to catch this guy. What's the law for - safety - when does the crime require this level of dangerous response ? Nuts
