Pain is not a moral failing!

I have been fighting chronic pain for well over a decade now...four years of which I have been receiving opiod medication. Last week I went to a 'pain clinic' ...what a MISTAKE! The first thing they did was urine test me for illicit substances--like some common criminal--the assumption being that anyone in pain is just seeking drugs for the 'fun' of it. Oh yeah...fer sher man, this is, like, way kewl dude...I'm like getting off on spending every waking minute of every day and night (and that is most hours of the 24, since sleep is rare) with every nerve from my first cervical verterbra down SCREAMING bloody effing murder at me! WOO HOO! Why do these QUACKS (in my case quackettes) go into the profession anyway if they just want to treat people like subhuman frauds? Granted approximately one percent of patients 'burn' pain doctors(this is an accurate statistic) but that in NO way justifies their treating 99% of innocent, legitimate people, already in pain, already demoralized and suffering, just reaching out for some small relief, like low lives! At any rate, back to my story...this BIMBETTE, who was not even the doctor I made the original appointment with, breezes into the exam room in her cutesy little halter dress, brassy-bleached hair in oh so stylish mall bangs, skin fake baked to orange pseudoperfection, more concerned about the fact that she has double booked patients for that day to allow for an extra extra long weekend than anything so mundane as caring for a mere patient...does a very cursory physical exam, stealthily (not) gouging each and every tender point on my abused body, watching for me to perform for her. 'Ohhh owww...that HURT!' I think not, Ms. Brunette Roots...I live with so much pain all day every day that nothing you can do at this point other than a rusty bladed amputation is gonna get much of a rise out of me, you freaking sadist. Then, after reviewing the diagnoses of the several specialists, internationally respected neurologists and rheumatologists among them, who have collaborated in my case so far, she asked me WHY I was being treated for pain. I'd have asked if she needed me to draw her an effin' picture, but those are in my chart too! So, my advice, as an RN, BSN and as a pain patient is as follows. If you want good care, aside from routine family practice or ob/gyn needs, go the the largest city your insurance will allow you to seek care, preferably a teaching/research hospital, and get your care there. You are more likely to win the lottery than to find the 'best' of any kind of doctor in a small or medium sized town in this country, no matter how they advertise. The pay, perks and prestige just don't attract the cream of the crop in Green Bay, Wisconsin, or wherever.
