paid/no conformation number???

I booked a hotel on bookit.com. After paying I was naturally expecting to recieve a confirmation #. The summary page however, said that I would receive my confirmation # shortly. I waited and waited and about 12 hours later I called the company he said that we would receive the # within 24-48 hours. I can not believe that I gave them my credit card # and now at this point, 36 hours after booking, I have nothing to show for my money.
