Re; un warranted charges to me. Dear Sir, I have two policies with Safeco (auto and homeowners) On or about March 29, 2006 I received an EXPIRATION NOTICE from Safeco Insurance Co of Illinois, who's agent in Kalispell is Bob Herron (see attached copy of notice) stating that my policy had expired at 12:01 a,m. standard time on March 24, 2006. They had also calculated in “late fee” in the new charges, providing I want to continue my policy with them, and this new balance must be paid by April 12, 2006. I purchased Automobile Insurance from another company saving me over $200.00 per year and no longer wanted Safeco. I went to their office in Kalispell about April 5, 2006 and told them I did not want their policy and had purchased auto insurance from someone else. I was informed that I could not cancel my auto policy sooner than April 5, 2006 as I had not notified them prior to that date even though they had sent me the EXPIRATION NOTICE on March 28, 2006 stating my policy had expired on Mar. 24, 2006 In my recent talks with them about a past due bill (from March 24 to April 05, 2006) they state that I must bring in a copy of my policy with my new insurer. They are now threatening me with more late fees and collection fees if I do not pay $27.65 by June 13, 2006. (see attached copy of this letter) $27.65 is not going to make or break me, but I feel this is an unjustified charge, as I do not believe there is a law on the books that requires me to show proof of current insurance to Safeco or any other Insurance Company, and furthermore any law that requires me to pay for Insurance after my policy had expired. Please see what you can do to help me with this problem, as Insurance Companies that practice this type of subterfuge should not be allowed to sell Insurance in Montana . Thank you in advance Jean R.
