Our Anonymous Confessions

We have a
tradition in the girls hostel where I live: we have a board where anyone can
put up their anonymous confessions. Quite a number of revelations have come up
on those pages. If you have a confession, you creep up to the board while no
one was around, which was usually Saturday midnights. We all respect the
privacy of the confessing girl and it is an unspoken rule not to approach the
board at that hour unless you are going to put up a confession.
From these anonymous confessions, we have had some drama and gossip fodder. Sometimes, we knew who was confessing but by its nature, we act around the confessing girl as if we don’t know. It’s an elegant system and through it we learnt about the riddle of the disappearing pregnancies; what happened to the principal’s dead cat; who was sleeping with whose boyfriend etc. It is really fun and I usually miss our confession board when I’m away from school.

Amanda Confessor, I must confess I like the spirit of 'openness' and respect with which you girls carry out your confessions. And the board definitely honors the tradition of sharing secrets. I can see how you girls must look forward to reading something new every week. Of course, I can imagine each confession will be topic for gist for the dorm but then since you protect the anonymity of the confessor, that is alright. Definitely a nice tradition.
