newspaperarchive.com sucks

Warning to those pulled in by so called free trial ads from newspaperarchive.com. DON'T DO IT. They put a hold on funds on your card without authorization on the 7th day, (8th day trial is over) without any prior warning e-mail, and they bill you nearly $100. (which is never mentioned up front.) You try to cancel online and go through hoops, each page saying, 'cancellation almost complete,' to only get to a page that says they MUST have your signature in writing to complete the cancellation and for instructions download a PDF and then send it via mail or fax and if they don't receive it in time, oh well, you are billed for an entire year. They say, 'as an adult it is your sole responsibility...blah blah.' It is a catch 22. If I do a chargeback for their unauthorized charge AND they have your faxed signature (which is needed to cancel according to their 'so-called' policies in 1 pt. font,) they can say you authorized the transaction with THAT VERY SIGNATURE. That is how the chargeback process works. It is no win. Besides their dishonest business practices, the site sucks. It is hard to navigate and extremely time consuming. (not like reasonable research, but totally in disarray.) I had hoped to do genealogy and historical research on the site but quickly found it to be GODAWFUL. I've never complained online before but this is the worst. Do not fall for their google or other ads..don't do it. It is a sham and they should be ashamed for their little charade. In my opinion, as adults running a business, (hear me Jeffrey??), they should be more proactive with customer service and organize their site better to make money...Not prey on surfers who innocently click a link and are intrigued by their spinning web of deceit.
