National Fuel Creeps

Today I got to experience a highly abusive representative from an upstate NY utilities company known as 'National Fuel.' A very condensed summary of what occurred is as follows: A very large, combative (read, intimidating) woman shows up at my door, nearly pushes her way inside, and tells me that I need to pay the gas bill right now, or she will shut the gas off. She does not show me any form of ID, I ask if she is from National Fuel. She stated she was (still never shows me any actual ID), and tells me that I am lying to her when I state that I do not pay that bill, but my husband does. She insults me several times (e.g. 'don't you know how to write a check?!?' calls me stupid, etc.), and continues to threaten me with shut-off, as well as yelling down the driveway (upon her departure) that she doesn't care, she is shutting the gas off, and that it's not HER problem that we 'don't pay our bills (for all the neighbors to hear)!' She also saw that we are in the middle of moving, and as I told her that I was very busy, and honestly did not know anything about this particular bill, she said that I can't get her to believe that I don't know what's going on, inferring that I was lying to her. Seeing the 'sold' sign on our house, she also told me that the next people who move in 'will have to drive all the way to Buffalo to start an account w/National Fuel for their natural gas supply,' implying selfishness on our part. Again, she did NOT show me her ID, nor identify who she was until I asked her. She rudely stormed off, and did immediately shut off the gas. As we are in the middle of a major move to another area, we now have no hot water, possibly for the next 24 hours, even though my husband immediately paid the bill via telephone. When I complained to the Public Service Commission, they seemed almost to take the side of the giant, abusive utility company. They told me that if I did not hear back from the company by the close of business day tomorrow, I should contact the PSC again the following day. The problem is, we are supposed to be out of our house within the next couple of days!! Some help! PSC also stated that we owed an amount that we don't even owe, hence they are looking at National Fuel's info, which is erroneous. Now I know why people go postal. As I have experienced nothing but trouble recently, I will probably post more horrendous things that have happened (e.g. bad neighbors, etc.) lately. Thanks!
